Origani’s Skincare Routine for Philippines’ Sweltering Weather

In a country where the sun is always blazing hot and the climate is almost always humid, it’s essential that you have a skin care routine so you can avoid the harsh effects of the sun. Dry skin is common in these conditions and if you go unprotected as the dry breeze hits your face, it might start flaking and cracking like what Livestrong says:

“Very dry skin is often blamed on hot, dry climates or cold, winter weather, but it can be a problem even in humid climates. Although extremely dry skin is rarely a serious medical condition, it is uncomfortable and often causes chapping, itching and flaking.”

To keep your skin hydrated as you bask under the sun, here are ways to maintain an effective skincare routine.

  • Cleanse – If you’re used to washing your face with cleansing foam, try switching and going for gentle, unscented facial washes. Cleansing foams may smell and feel nice, but during sweltering days, the facial wash can strip your skin of its moisture, leaving it with dry, flaky.
  • Exfoliate – If you’re dealing with dry skin, don’t scratch and peel the dead skin. Don’t give in to the temptation of scratching because it can cause irritation and unintentional breakouts. Instead, exfoliate once or twice a week to get rid of the flaking skin and prevent acne. Also, don’t scrub too hard.
  • Moisturize – Sun exposure combined with the salty sea breeze can worsen facial redness and inflammation so make sure that you moisturize. Whether you’re used to slathering on moisturizing gel or cream before you head out for the day, it’s important that you use a lightweight product. With the right moisturizer, your skin will feel nourished, but not clogged by the time you get home.
  • Hydrate – When you mist, you provide your skin with a hydration layer. Drinking water does the job from the inside; misting does the same task from the outside. To add another layer of protection, try sunscreen mists. Not only will you keep your skin fresh and cool, but you’ll be able to protect it from the harsh rays of the sun, too.
